We all hate politics in a way. Most of us also love it in a way. I think this goes for Religion and other ‘off-limits’ discussion areas in society like race, gender, etc. Something we all know is that Facebook has become a political yelling match… filled with algorithms which only show you views which reinforce yours. Insulting those with opposing views rather than proving why their arguments/logic is faulty has become the norm. Quit it: That’s childish and doesn’t work at all.
Bigot. Racist. Liar. Idiot. Fool… What would it take for you to sit across the table and tell someone they are one of these things, directly? Why is it so easy to type but not say to their face? Probably because it’s not true and it’s the easy way to shut down an argument rather than engage in one.
Politics, Religion, and other taboo discussions really do matter, and aren’t living well on the internet. These things matter deeply because they affect actual lives, constantly. When we get into shouting matches, it is simple to label those who disagree with you as evil, stupid, or bigoted… rather than taking time to understand where they are coming from. This blog will (hopefully) become a place where anyone can put their argument out there. I believe that freedom of speech (even speech you disagree with), is the bedrock to our society being functional.
I’ve heard it said that if the masses believe they cannot change minds with discussion, violence is the next step. Let’s avoid that.
This blog will feature my thoughts on issues occasionally, but my real goal is that it will be a place where anyone can write in their argument/logic/critical reasoning on any given issue, and can have the chance to have it represented in it’s full (yet concise) extent. I won’t post any opinions which resort to name calling as their logic — but will post opinions that I don’t subscribe to. Authors will have the choice to include their name/contact info with the post, or simply write with anonymity & I will not reveal their names.
Let’s begin!
